itDf members reading philosophy | Feb 2022

Cathrin Fischer

Since September 2021, the itDf team has been meeting once a month to discuss a philosophical text in a transdisciplinary setting.

This philosophy reading group is an opportunity for the team to benefit from each other’s interdisciplinary perspective and gain familiarity with significant philosophical texts in a collaborative space of exchange and learning. We are interested in reading philosophy that is relevant to our various strands of research on disability, bodies, design, technology, and imagination. Given the focus on phenomenology at the Exeter-location, the team has started with texts from Martin Heidegger, on technology and being, and continued with Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s contribution to embodiment and incorporation.

We are looking forward to delving deeper into philosophical texts, including more contemporary and critical work in philosophy of disability, and we hope that this reading group continues to be a space for interdisciplinary discussion in the itDf team.
